Let's Do It!

Whether you worked with me, signed a petition, joined one on my groups, marched side by side in your community, joined the car insurance campaign, fought for tax cuts, fought for cash for Broadway, campaigned for better social care, helped to change the law on quad bikes or any one of the millions of activities that made the difference to your place in Bradford East. My Manifesto 2017 - Education

If Bradford is going to have a successful future, it relies on our children getting the education that they deserve. I believe my background as a governor in specialist, primary and secondary schools is second to none.  I have a role to play in helping and working with all of our schools to ensure we are delivering education that is at least good, or outstanding. Our children deserve it and I believe I can help them achieve it. Continue reading

My Manifesto 2017 - Housing

We need a proper plan for development, one that protects our green spaces and one that makes sure we have Doctors, Dentists, school places and investment in our roads. We need more places that are designed with people in mind. Places that support people who need care to keep their independence. Continue reading

We need well-funded services to help support unpaid carers in Bradford

There are 7 million unpaid carers in the UK. That is around 1 in 10 of the population.  3 in 5 of us will be a carer at some point in our lifetime. Unpaid carers provide care for millions of people who could not manage without their help. That is why it’s important for carers to be identified and supported. I have pledged to make a difference for carers if elected to Parliament by taking the 5 steps identified by the Carers Trust: Continue reading

I agree with Michael Sheen we need to support a Social Economy

The people of Bradford sometimes feel they don’t have all that much to be united about. Inequality threatens all our prosperity. Trust in our institutions, our businesses, our media and each other seems more fragile than ever before. People can feel ignored and insecure, far from the centres of power, excluded from the benefits of growth, and our country sometimes feels beyond our control. But we know we can build a more inclusive economy. We don’t expect the national government to solve all our problems. We can solve many of them ourselves, locally, and help others to solve theirs too, if given the chance. We can work together with a strong sense of purpose and by applying the values we hold dear - fairness, decency, hard work and togetherness.  Continue reading

I've made a Pledge for Pubs

Beer, brewing and pubs make a huge contribution to our local economy. They support nearly 900,000 British jobs, and contribute £23.1bn to the UK economy annually. Pubs are also an important part of local community life, bringing people together and combating loneliness. I've shown my support by signing up to back three simple pledges ahead of the election: Beer: Celebrate and promote Britain’s 1,540 breweries Pubs: Support action to help pubs thrive Consumers: Represent the interests of pub goers, beer and cider drinkers The CAMRA full manifesto for beer and pubs can be found here. I pledge to improve the social care system for disabled people

They campaign for a fully inclusive society where every person is equally valued. I pledge to improve the social care system for disabled people by ensuring the right level of social care is made available, and that all disabled people who want to work are supported to gain meaningful employment.
