Councillor David Ward ( Lib Dem Idle ) has taken up a complaint from residents about The Hungry Monkey, a take away food shop on Leeds Road which has started operating a mobile van at the end of Ashfield Road on the blocked off pavement .
A number of local residents have complained about the noise and smell. Pupils from local schools are using it and spilling into the road
Cllr Ward said,
" I have spoken to environmental health who say he does not need a licence to trade there but I have suggested that the van gets a food inspection.
I have referred the van to environmental protection for nuisance and noise assessments.
Planning say it does not need planning permission.
Parking enforcement say that there are no parking restrictions on the road and parking on the pavement is a police matter. .
It seems to me that as he is parked on the pavement it is down to the police to ticket him especially if the customers are causing a traffic hazard and I have asked them to do this while we see what else can be done."
