Cllr. David Ward is against cuts to vital Adult Services
Cllr. David Ward has hit out at Tory proposals to axe over ₤5m from the budget for Adult Services.
He said, "The budget is under huge pressure with people living longer, an increasing number of people with learning disabilities and people requiring more care as they get older. The department needs ₤5.5m to cope with everything from more adults with learning difficulties, to more school leavers with physical disabilities and more people needing help to live at home."
The Conservative group on the Council proposed millions of pounds of unacceptable cuts for the voluntary sector, increased charges for home care and hot meals delivered at home. The Liberal Democrats rejected these cuts to the vital services needed by the most vulnerable.
David Ward said, "There have been concerns recently about the standard of care offered to residents of care homes including three deaths which have been investigated. The last thing we need is to cut Adult Services so severely that they can't do what we expect them to do just so rich people could have a Council tax holiday."
