Labour let-down in Council budget negotiations

March 22, 2010 10:00 AM
Cllr. David Ward

David Ward and the Liberal Democrats setting the Council's budget

Once again, Labour have let down local people by not playing a part in setting the Council's budget.

The Council is balanced with no Party having a majority of seats so Political Parties have to work together to settle the Council's budget. Labour did turn up to pre-budget meetings but they just took away the ideas of other political parties rather than working with others to get things done. All the main Liberal Democrat ideas were included along with some from each of the other two parties.

"The budget decision is the biggest one the Council takes all year. Labour supporters must wonder what the Labour party in Bradford is for when it refuses to play a full part in the biggest decision of the year. Once again, the group of Labour Councillors stood around sulking while the rest of us rolled up our sleeves and got on with it" said David Ward. "They should be ashamed."
