Frustration at an invisible Quango's plans to refurbish to Odeon
As the building work on the new City Park progresses, it is easy to imagine what could have been with a refurbished Odeon, with its magnificent towers, complementing those of the Alhambra.
David Ward said, in a letter published by the Telegraph & Argus, "How great it would have been to have at least kept the towers (as one of the entries in the international design competition proposed) in any new development, but to have had a middle section which could have reflected the park, the pool and City Hall itself.
How frustrating it has been to have had the building purchased with our public money but in the ownership of an invisible quango, totally impervious to public opinion. How badly we have been let down."
