Lib Dems to invest in a stronger local economy

April 18, 2010 9:48 AM

Gordon Brown's recession has cost Bradford thousands of jobs and left people depending on a benefits system that traps them in poverty. Only the Liberal Democrats will work for young people who are in danger of becoming a lost generation and for older skilled workers who have lost their jobs.

Physical regeneration in itself is not the answer. This is the path which Bradford has previously followed with little permanent result. We must create social regeneration, community cohesion and higher levels of income. We believe that without exception, the Council should make sure that it obtains and can demonstrate the benefits in trade, training and employment opportunities of regeneration schemes.

Without this, Bradford will continue to be a low skill, low wage economy. The Lib Dems will provide the political will and determination to turn this crises into an opportunity for Bradford to become a high skill, high wage, low unemployment economy representing a broad range of sectors.
