HousingBradford MP, David Ward has been elected to co-chair a newly created All Party Parliamentary Group for Housing in the North, at the inaugural meeting of the group this week.

The group, which has already been joined by over 50 MPs and peers, will meet regularly to address and bring attention to the housing issues faced by northern cities.

Commenting, David said:

"I am delighted to have been given this role. Much of the debate around housing has focussed on south of England, and ignored the real challenges we face in cities like Bradford where housing shortages are just as severe. This group is an opportunity to change that and to make sure that we do not get stuck with a one-size-fits-all policy.

"Housing is vitally important for the welfare of people in Bradford and beyond. Decent, affordable homes are crucial for the development of strong communities and a strong local economy. Research shows that if we kept up with demand for new housing we could create over 4,000 jobs every year in Bradford alone, and up to four times that number in the supply chain."
