Regional Growth Fund gives massive boost to Bradford jobs
Bradford MP, David Ward, has welcomed today's announcement that Bradford is to receive £17 million from the Government's Regional Growth Fund to turn around the city centre .
Bradford's Hindle Group also received funding to purchase a gear testing machine allowing them to design gearboxes and enabling them to become a tier 1 supplier to major equipment manufacturers.
Commenting, David said:
"It is phenomenally good news. This will create thousands of badly needed private sector jobs in Bradford and will finally fill in the hole that has blighted our city centre for the past ten years.
"We have brought six senior members of the Government to the district to show them just how vital this work is to Bradford- including Vince Cable and the Cities Minister, Greg Clark. I know this made all the difference in the decision making process.
"This is the catalyst that kicks everything off. Once we have managed to get the city centre sorted, everything else follows. The city centre is crucial in changing the image of the district."
Commenting further, Liberal Democrat Leader and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said:
"I am delighted to be able to announce this boost to business, which will jump start growth and create jobs that last in the places that really need it.
"This targeted support for businesses across the country allows them to expand and create jobs. It unlocks private sector investment - with an estimated £6 put in for every £1 of public money.
"People in the rest of Britain have been let down for far too long by governments in thrall to one Square Mile of it. The first pot of Regional Growth Fund money is already making a difference across the country - helping to rebalance our economy so that every region and sector benefits."
