Bradford MP calls on local business leaders to help "Inspire the Future"

March 21, 2012 5:36 PM

David Ward MPBradford MP David Ward has backed the Inspiring the Future initiative, which aims to link tens of thousands of professionals with state school children across the country.

The scheme, supported by the main teaching organisations and employer bodies, is based on extensive research which shows that the more chances young people get to meet leading professionals at school, the more likely they are to go on to successful careers.

The programme will offer English secondary schools and colleges a chance to find volunteers for a range of activities beginning with giving short 'career insight' talks, and then enterprise talks. During 2012 the programme will expand to include mentoring, school governors and work experience placements.

Signing up to the scheme is free for all state schools and colleges.

Commenting, David said:

"Access to successful professionals has long given young people from more affluent backgrounds a head start in life. The Inspiring the Future Initiative aims to level the playing field.

"By taking professionals into schools the program will make sure that children from all backgrounds get to see what they can achieve in life. They will also be able to benefit from careers advice, work experience and networking opportunities.

"Role models can make a real difference in shaping young people's lives. I urge schools and employers to sign up to the scheme to help inspire young people in Bradford to achieve their full potential."
