Bradford East MP, David Ward, has joined a cross-party campaign to persuade Foreign Secretary, William Hague, to back the motion for Palestinian statehood at the United Nations General Assembly due on September 27th.

A parliamentary motion tabled on Tuesday, and signed by David, has gathered over 64 signatures already and more are expected to sign before Parliament goes into recess on Tuesday.

Commenting, David said:

"I am proud to be a supporter of the Palestinians and I believe it is important to speak up for their rights and their identity as it often seems that the debate surrounding the issue is stifled."

"I signed this parliamentary motion because for us to move forward and have peace in these turbulent times it is important to recognise Palestine's statehood. I believe in a free, secure Palestine."

"I am confident that the motion for Palestinian statehood will be successful at the United Nations General Assembly."
