April 30, 2009 12:17 PM

Cllr David WardBradford North Area Committee is set to money for two projects; one for dementia sufferers and their carers and one for extra work with young people.

Bradford Alzheimer's Society will get £6,600 to run singing sessions helped by a musician from Northern Orchestral Enterprises Ltd for dementia sufferers and their carers. At the end of he projects they hope to give a concert for families and friends and make a CD. As well as being fun, singing helps breathing and posture.

Bradford North Integrated Youth Support Service will get £30,000 to provide a mix of sports, arts and multi-media workshops for young people aged 13-19 across geographical and cultural boundaries. They will also run two residential courses delivered by Rewind to equip young people to address racism and act as role models and educators in schools.

Cllr David Ward, chair of the North Area Committee said,

" These are two very worthwhile projects to add to the list of projects paid for out of the Area Initiatives Fund.

The Alzheimer's Society do a huge amount of work to help sufferers and their carers deal with this devastating condition and I am very pleased to be able to support them. I look forward to receiving the CD of their concert!

The Youth Service play a key role in helping young people in Bradford to develop skills and friendships across cultural barriers and the area committee money will help them continue this work."
