Labour MP's snub fair tax campaign

David Ward and Nick Clegg want to introduce fair taxes

Labour MP's have been criticised for voting against help for those who lost out when Gordon Brown abolished the 10p tax rate.

Campaigners had hoped that enough Labour MP's would support a Commons amendment to compensate those who were affected. But too many Labour MP's lined up to support the Government and defeat the plans.

David Ward said, "We have a disproportionate number of people on low incomes who have been really hurt by this decision."

"This is a bitter blow for campaigners who have been arguing for fairness in our tax system."

The Liberal Democrats want to raise the income tax threshold to ₤10,000, giving an average of ₤700 back to people on low and middle incomes.

If you are a resident of the Bradford East constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
