Building like the Odeon cannot wait two years for a decision on there future
David Ward is demanding five Yorkshire Forward assets across Bradford be transferred to the Council so that the regeneration and development of the city can continue. The list includes the Odeon Building and the former police HQ in the city centre.
Waiting until 2012, when Yorkshire Forward is abolished, along with all other Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) across the country, is too long and action needs to be taken now.
David said: "There is talk about transferring assets to the new Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) which will take over from the RDAs in March 2012 but that is a long time.
"I believe these sites that are in and around the city centre, acquired by Yorkshire Forward to help with regeneration, should be transferred to the Council. The Odeon site is quite controversial, it is a prime redevelopment site and it is a complete eyesore. It dominates the view over the new park being built in the city centre"
"These sites are crucial to the regeneration and development of the city centre. We do not want to wait until 2012 to find out what will happen, we need to move forward with the regeneration and development of the city centre now."
The five assets highlight by David are;
The Odeon site and car park on Princes Way
The former Bradford Business and Innovation Centre,
The former police headquarters at the Tyrls,
Land at the former Furniture City warehouse site at Valley Road
Land at 2-16 Great Horton Road.
David is pushing Government ministers to take a decision over assets owned by RDAs before March 2012.
