David Ward meets Bradford’s future entrepreneurs

March 18, 2011 9:56 AM

MP, David Ward will join young people for a 'Dragon's Den' style business event for aspiring entrepreneurs.

They will be taking part in the "Step Up Market Challenge" event, taking place at Valley Parade, the home of Bradford City F Dragons Denootball Club. Norman Lamb, a senior Liberal Democrat MP and Chief Political Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister, will also be in attendance.

Young people from St Matthews, Bowling Park, St Stephen's, Westminster, Feversham, Blakehill, Marshfield, LBEC, On Track and Connexions will all pitch their business ideas to a panel of "Dragons" drawn from the local business community.

One hundred projects have been shortlisted, ranging from jewellery and chocolates to bird scarers and recycled robots. The successful teams will each receive an investment of £100 to develop products to be sold on market stalls in July in Bradford city centre and Keighley Town Centre.

Commenting, David Ward MP said:

"The Market Challenge is a fantastic event, which I hope will inspire a new generation of Bradford entrepreneurs to set up their own businesses.

"It's fantastic to see so many talented young people with so much potential to succeed. We need these young people to go out and create the wealth and jobs the District needs for the future.

"I look forward to visiting the schools to see the how the winning projects develop, in time for the market event in July"

Commenting, Norman Lamb MP said:

"This event is a great opportunity for young people to showcase their skills and ingenuity."

"The scheme gives young people a valuable insight into the world of business and I'm sure the skills they learn will stand them in good stead.

"This is the year that the Government aims to kick start the "entrepreneurial decade" - what better time for the next generation of entrepreneurs to be pitching their business ideas."
