David Ward MP has today launched the search for the most outstanding and innovative example of Bradford manufacturing.
The hunt is part of a project launched by a cross Party group of MPs who want to support and champion UK manufacturing.
Commenting, David Ward said:
"We are seeing a manufacturing renaissance in Britain, with manufacturing growing three times faster than the rest of the economy. This needs to continue if we are to succeed in rebalancing away from Financial Services and the South East.
"Bradford has a proud manufacturing heritage and there are lots of fantastic products made here today. This exhibition is an opportunity to showcase the best examples of Bradford manufacturing, alongside great design from across the country.
"I would urge Bradford businesses to submit entries for the exhibition. It could be anything from jam to silicon chips. I very am very much looking forward to presenting the best of what Bradford has to offer."
Each MP will nominate one manufactures product from their area to be entered into a high profile exhibition of 21st century manufacturing. Using the opportunity offered by the Olympics, this will be on show in London and around the country in 2012, as well as through a cutting-edge online catalogue.
The MPs have been inspired by their predecessors who, 160 years ago, supported Prince Albert's Great Exhibition. The Great Exhibition of 1851 showed thousands of examples of manufacturing and design, in a massive celebration of ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness. The iconic Crystal Palace was designed and built for the purpose of housing the vast exhibition. In today's economic climate, the scale of the exhibition will be rather more modest, but the need for manufacturing ability has never been greater.
To nominate a product, your own or someone else's, please contact David's constituency office on 01274 403973 or write to 458 Killinghall Road, Bradford, BD2 4SL. The closing date for entries will be in mid April.
