Bradford Taxi drivers Join Call for Affordable Car Insurance

August 16, 2011 12:13 PM

David Ward MP's Campaign for Affordable Car Insurance today gained further momentum following a meeting with local taxi drivers.

Mr Shabir Munir, a representative of the Bradford Hackney Carriage Owners and Drivers Association reported that, "This is a very important issue, not just for taxi drivers... We've got to show the real strength of feeling there is about this".

David's campaign has already highlighted the huge premiums quoted to people in Bradford - something that impacts on taxi drivers particularly badly. Things have now reached a point where some taxi drivers have already been forced to give up and others are close to breaking point.

Commenting, David Ward said:

"I'd like to thank the taxi drivers I met today and their colleagues who have filled in surveys, for taking time to share their views and for suggesting solutions.

This is an issue that affects everyone in Bradford, residents and businesses alike. Even people who don't drive are impacted by the higher costs businesses are forced to pass on to their cutomers.

Local people care passionately about this and want to see something done. I've already received over 1000 responses to the campaign, and there are more and more coming in each day.

There are things that can and should be done to bring premiums down - such as banning referral fees, imposing tougher punishments on uninsured drivers and tackling fraudlent claims.

Please take a few minutes to fill in the survey and sign the petition to help me persuade the Government to introduce the measures needed to tackle this problem". DW and Cllr Riaz Ahmed with Taxi Drivers talking about Car Insurance

If you are a resident of the Bradford East constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
