Ward demands pub industry reform

David Ward has demanded real reform of pub companies after Parliament passed a motion criticising the Government's failure to act on the recommendations of a recent report.
The Government has come under heavy criticism after failing to implement recommendations from MPs on Parliament's Business Committee, including Bradford MP, David Ward.
David sponsored today's motion, calling on the Government to look again at the recommendations, including a statutory code of conduct and offering tenants a genuinely "free-of-tie" option.
The motion was accepted by the Government who faced strong opposition from MPs, and they will now commission and independent review which will report by the end of this year.
Commenting, David said:
"The pub industry is in desperate need of reform. It is far too strongly weighted in favour of big pub companies and against their tenants. Pub landlords in Bradford are going out of business every week as a result of unfair practices.
"There is consensus that reform is needed including a genuine free of tie option and open market rent reviews, and this was reflected in the Select Committee's report. I was very disappointed that the Government chose to ignore our recommendations.
"Today's motion has forced them to think again, and opened the door for real reform. The Government must come forward with more meaningful proposals for change."
