Record Numbers of Bradfordians Start an Apprenticeship

New figures released today show that in Bradford show 2500 people have taken up apprenticeships since August last year.
This comes on top of record numbers of apprentices in our area last year: 4620 were on an apprenticeship in 2010/2011, which is an increase of 70% on the previous year.
Commenting, David Ward MP said:
"The record rise in learners taking up apprenticeships in Bradford is great news for the city. I regularly visit local businesses that take on apprentices and see the huge difference that they can make to a company's success. Just last night I attended an event organised by Incommunities to celebrate the hard work of two of their apprentices.
"Apprenticeships are a key part of the Coalition's strategy to tackle youth unemployment and rebalance our economy away from the gamblers playing with other people's money in the City of London.
Thanks to the Regional Growth Fund, we've already invested £189 million in Yorkshire and created 27 thousand jobs in new and existing businesses as well as in the supply chain. But for this to be a success, local people need the skills to take advantage of the new jobs being created. Apprenticeships do just that, teaching valuable knowledge and skills and making our companies more productive."
