David Ward MP invites Bradford’s future business leaders to Parliament

July 17, 2012 11:06 AM

David Ward MP met Market Challenge 1the winners of Market Challenge, a 'Dragon's Den'-style business competition for young entrepreneurs.

The 22 visitors came from the Lees Primary, St Cuthbert and the First Martyrs, and Oxenhope Schools to join David for a tour of Parliament and Q and A session, and watch a parliamentary debate.

They won the competition by creating original products, ranging from pots made from recycled material to chocolates and bee hive candles, which they pitched to 'Dragons' from the Bradford business community. The most impressive teams were given £100 of funding to develop their ideas and sell their goods at a market, and prizes were awarded for the most innovative products, best marketing strategy, and most profitable team.

Commenting, David Ward MP said:

"It was a pleasure to meet these impressive young people. They asked thoughtful questions and have created some really innovative products.

"As a member of the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee, it is exciting to see our young people developing into Bradford's next generation of entrepreneurs. I am sure they can create the wealth and jobs the city needs in the future.

"The Market Challenge competition is a fantastic opportunity for Bradford to show off what its young people can achieve, and I can't wait to meet the next group of winners."

If you are a resident of the Bradford East constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
