Funding approval was granted back in the Chancellor's 2011 Autumn Statement for the Rail Growth Package, which comprises two new rail stations at Kirkstall Forge and Apperley Bridge. The proposed station site is located off Apperley Lane (A658). The Liberal Democrats in Government have also helped secure an extra £130m to improve the railway line between Bradford and Manchester.

Commenting, David said:

"This is fantastic news I have campaigned for this station to be re-opened for years. I am delighted that it is now finally happening thanks to a Liberal Democrat Transport Minister.

"The Station will be a great asset to the area. It will give residents access to the regioon's wider rail network and ease congestion at the Greengates junction by taking 200,000 cars off the road each year.

"This is exactly the kind of infrastructure investment we need to get the region's economy moving and create growth outside of London and the South East."

Theresa Villiers, the Minister of State for Transport, confirmed:

"Commencement of works at Apperley Bridge is anticpated in Summer 2013. The expected completion date of the leeds Rail Growth Package is December 2014."
