DVLA deal ‘good news for Bradford Post Offices and motorists’ – Ward

November 14, 2012 1:12 PM

DW PictureBradford MP David Ward has described the deal that will see the Post Office continue to deliver tax disc and driving licence services as 'good news for Bradford Post Offices and motorists'.

Motorists will be able to tax their cars and apply for or renew driving licences at the Post Office for at least seven more years in a deal with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) announced today by the Coalition Government.

Commenting, David said:

"I've been inundated with letters and postcards from constituents who were worried that their Post Office was in danger of losing this vital service, so I am extremely pleased that the Post Office bid has been successful.

"Post Offices are a vital part of our communities here in Bradford and this news, along with the Coalition's commitment to invest £1bn in the Post Office network, helps to put them on a more sustainable footing for the future.

"This news also furthers the Coalition's aim to see Post Offices as a front office for Government and I am pleased that this contract means that the Post Offices will be able to bid for other services in the future."

The Coalition Government announced that the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) was awarding a new contract to the Post Office to provide DVLA services until 31 March 2020.

    1. This contract has the option for an extension for a further three years and will mean drivers will be able to get their vehicle excise duty car tax discs from Post Offices as well as applying for driving licences at certain post offices.
