Bradford MP launches ‘Get on the Bus’ campaign in partnership with Bradford Youth Services
David Ward MP will be launching his 'Get on the Bus' summer campaign at Morrisons (Five Lane Ends) today at 1pm. The project is aimed at young people who are not registered to vote. The campaign is being run by David Ward MP's office and other local organisations, including BCB Radio and Bradford Youth Services.
This is also the first campaign being run by Morrisons Community Champions in Bradford.
The project will take place over ten days starting on Monday 5th August 2013 and ending on Thursday 29th August, 3 days per week, starting at 1pm and ending at 8pm.
The campaign is using a hired bus and is made up of a team of workers drawn from David Ward MP's office, Inspired Neighbourhoods, a local community interest regeneration company, the Bradford Youth Services, Positive for Youth Partnership, HALE Outreach Venue and Bradford Community Broadcasting Radio.
The bus will set up as a base for young people to participate in activities developed by 'Bite the Ballot', an organisation campaigning to change the face of politics by working with young people and getting them registered to vote.
The bus will also be used as a consultation project for young people, BCB Radio (who will be using it as a broadcasting station in afternoons) and as a office for a constituency caseworker from the MP's office.
Commenting David Ward said:
"I feel passionately about ensuring young people use their right to vote which is why I am running this campaign. Everything which occurs in a young person's life is in some way or another related to politics. They need to make their voices heard. I look forward to working over the summer with young people, the youth work team and BCB Radio to get the debate started."
Morrisons Head of Corporate Affairs, Guy Mason said:
"Morrisons has always considered itself to be part of the local community so we think the 'Get on the Bus' campaign is a really creative way of keeping younger people entertained and engaged. This is exactly the kind of great initiative our new community champions are looking to support."
