Quad Bikes Petition
The use of off road vehicles like quad and dirt bikes are a real problem in many of our streets. Hundreds of local people contact me every year about this problem. According to West Yorkshire Police, 15% of all reports of anti-social behaviour in the City are due to people riding off road vehicles in a noisy and dangerous way, that's 2,500 reports every year, which is a huge amount and can't go on.
I met the Police recently about this problem and they told me that whilst they have a lot of powers to penalise people, the problem is identifying and catching the culprits. Because these vehicles are driven in a dangerous way, catching these criminals safely can be a problem, and because they don't have license plates, it can be difficult trying to identify culprits unless they are caught red handed.
This is why I have called for; 1. The mandatory registration of all off road vehicles at the point of sale. 2. The enforcing the current regulations that ban most quad bikes being used on our roads and 3. Changing the regulations, so that all quad bike riders must wear safety gear. These steps will help the Police take effective action against people for using these vehicles as a toy and causing damaging anti-social behaviour in our roads. I will be pressing the Government to trial this ideas in Bradford so that we will be able to stop our streets from being used as a race track in the future.
